چکیده

A hybrid slip model combined an Asperity model and k model for predicting near-field strong ground motion is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the asperity model charactering lower wave number of slip distribution is estimated based on works of Wang (2004), Wang and Tao (2004a, b). Secondly, k square slip model charactering higher wave number of slip distribution was determined based on research results of Gallovic et al (2002) and Wang (2004). Finally, the slip distribution on the rupture surface is merged by the spatial wave number spectra from asperity model with that from k square model, a hybrid slip model is then turned out. To validate reliability and practicability of the hybrid slip model, 1994 Northridge earthquake, California is taken as an example. The acceleration time histories on three rock stations for an earthquake with magnitude Mw6.7 are predicted, and records at the same sites during the 1994 Northridge earthquake are compared.

The characteristics of near-fault ground motion are investigated considering heterogeneous slip distribution on the fault plane. Areas on the fault plane with large slip in compare with the average slip on the fault are known as asperity. The characteristics of strong ground motions in near-fault area are strongly affected by faulting parameters such as asperity location, maximum slip of asperi...

A Hybrid Method for Predicting Strong Ground Motions at Broad-frequencies near M8 Earthqaukes in Subduction Zones

The near-field strong motions during the 1985 Michoacan earthquake (M8) are successfully simulated at broadband frequencies. For the simulation at low frequencies (0 to 1 Hz), the modified k-square model (Hisada, 1999) is used by considering the k-squared (wavenumbersquared) distributions of slip (Mendoza and Hartzell, 1989) and the incoherent rupture time. For modeling the slip velocity, the K...

A Strong Ground Motion Catalogue of Selected Records for Shallow Crustal, Near Field Earthquakes in Iran

Understanding strong ground motions in the near-fault areas is important for seismic risk assessment in densely populated areas. In the past, lack of information on strong ground motion for large and moderate earthquakes led to the use of mainly far field large and moderate earthquake records in equations for calculation of the strong ground motion parameters. In this article, we collected and ...

Synthesis of Near-Fault Ground Motion Using a Hybrid Method of Stochastic and Theoretical Green’s Functions

The effect of near-fault ground displacement is a significant factor when structures straddle a fault, because the fault produces both static step-like deformations and dynamic pulse-like ground motions. It has been observed that the static displacements measured up to 10 m and strong ground motion velocity pulses exceed 100 cm/s. As there is no concrete method for the seismic design of near-fa...

Simulation of fault dynamic rupture and near-field strong motion

Dynamic rupture process of earthquake fault and its near-field strong ground motions are simulated by time-space-decoupled, explicit finite element method with multi-transmitting formula (MTF) of artificial boundary in this paper. This decoupled, explicit method has advantage to easily incorporate into time-step simulation of dynamic rupture process on earthquake fault, as well as wave motions....
